David Reid Homes Houses Award-Winning Kitchens

A David Reid Homes build is home to another champion kitchen following the Trends International Design Awards (TIDA) for 2019.

The kitchen was designed by Leonie Metge of Cube Dentro for a home built by David Reid Homes Counties in the rural township of Whitford, south-east Auckland.

It was awarded the TIDA New Zealand Designer Kitchen of the Year Award.

Leonie’s biggest challenge was finding a way to make a bold and complimentary statement within the dramatic context of the wider space.

The resulting kitchen features a lowered ceiling which helps to define the kitchen and create a more intimate space next to the living and dining areas, which have soaring cathedral ceilings and exposed steel beams.

The kitchen has a dark palette featuring rich wood grain cabinetry, adding a warm and inviting ambience and rural views are maximised by careful placement of cabinetry.

A handmade light pendant creates a statement in the kitchen, while a scullery provides extra functional space.

Judges of the awards were impressed with the way the kitchen fitted in with the strong architectural features of the home.

Another of Leonie’s kitchens, also designed for David Reid Homes Counties, was highly commended in the awards, while just this week she received the Best Kitchen Design Award at the Master Joiners Awards for the same kitchen, pictured left.
