When Ben and Katie Smith wanted to build a holiday home in Wanaka, the David Reid Homes Smart Solutions range was the simple, stress-free and cost-effective fix the busy couple needed.

Based on David Reid Home’s Fusion Range and our Smart Solutions philosophy, Ben and Katie were able to build a stylish, energy-efficient, easy-care holiday home within a set budget.

David Reid Homes Wanaka director Chris Leith, says the home, which was awarded gold in the Southern Region 2016 Registered Master Builders House of the Year Awards, was designed to meet the family’s needs, and built while Ben was away playing for the 2015 Rugby World Cup in England.

“This holiday home was their entry into the Wanaka market, they’re a busy young family who didn’t want to go over the top.  They just wanted a simple place where they could come and relax in the off-season.”

The 219 sqm home has four bedrooms and two bathrooms, featuring open plan living, dining and kitchen perfect for families, entertaining and the relaxed holiday atmosphere the Smith’s were aiming for.

True to the Smart Solutions philosophy of building energy-efficient homes to cut the long term living costs of the home, the specifications include double glazed windows, extra insulation, a thermally broken fully insulated slab foundation and a smart ventilation system to transfer heat and reduce condensation.

Clever design creates a feeling of space and makes the most of the natural light, Chris says.

“The vaulted ceiling in the living area creates an illusion of space and large windows catch lots of sun, which with the extra insulation results in some pretty big passive solar gains.”

Other smart design includes extra storage in the attic, while the double garage has also been fully insulated and carpeted so it can double as a TV/games/spare room as required.

Ben and Katie say they are absolutely in love with their new home, and cannot thank Chris and Tracey enough.

“They went above and beyond for us and nothing was ever a worry.  “Their experience and attention to detail, coupled with their incredible work ethic meant that we were able to build a stunning home within our incredibly tight time frame.”
