Dulux 2017 Colour Trends

The colour scheme selected for a home can be one of the biggest decisions there is to make when it comes to building, renovating, and redecorating.

The palette you choose for each room sets the tone, and can make a big difference to the feel of the space.

This year, Dulux has put together four key colour themes, motivated by a desire to combat the modern challenges faced in the digital world we live in.

Inspired by an emphasis on tactility, deep blues and the evolution of ‘greiges’, and coined ‘Antidote: A Colour Cure’, they are Sentience, Chroma, Entwine, and Construct.

Dulux colour expert Davina Harper says an overarching concept was developed through research each year, and this year an emphasis on connection, tactility, and balance prevailed.

“There is an ongoing desire to create havens that cater to all our senses which will see the prominence of textures blended with muted hues,” she says.

Davina predicted deeper blues and greens would be the dominant colours of 2017, with a rise in popularity of earthy greens, greys and greiges, featuring subtle undertones.  

Creating positive change in a space could be as simple as adding a little colour or texture, and will create an interesting new feel to the space, Davina says.

“Use colour in areas within the home that present a high impact, for instance, the entrance where you greet your visitors, or the main living space where you spend the majority of time.

“Even the smallest touch of colour can help personalise your home,” she says.

Sentience

Inspired by this yearning to create a tactile environment, Sentience promotes harmony through subtle pastels and soft neutrals.

Construct

With a heavier focus on texture, Construct inspires pared back beauty with the inclusion of industrial influences and metallic accents using new Dulux Concrete Effect, Dulux Metallic Effect, and inky blues.

Entwine

This palette embraces the idea of connection and takes its cues from the simplicity of weaving. It features an eclectic interior style, incorporating rich shades that are deep, yet earthy and unique.

Chroma

With inspiration taken from the Memphis and Bauhaus movements; peach, melon, yellow and teal hues are combined with optical illusions, layered materials and reflections.
