High Quality New Builds Remain Priority Amid Changing Landscape

During recent years, much has changed within the landscape of New Zealand’s original David Reid Homes franchise.

David Reid Homes Canterbury was established some 24 years ago, and the 2011 earthquake changed the region in ways it hadn’t been changed before.

However, franchise director Chris Swann, and general manager Chris Solly say the team have come out of their Christchurch rebuild phase as far as residential builds are concerned, and they continue to build houses based on the original David Reid Homes philosophy, of high quality new builds.

“In general terms, there were a lot of the older houses [in Christchurch] which now are no longer there, and we’ve seen a lot of new homes appearing.

“The earthquake hasn’t changed the style of our homes, but it has changed structural elements … in terms of look and feel we are still building the same sorts of houses,” they say.

The Canterbury team prides itself on being able to design and build homes which fit perfectly with what their client has asked for.

“Dealing with customers on designing their dream home; it’s such a large purchase for anybody, and you’re involved in designing something for them that meets their needs.

“To walk them through that process, at the end of the day the ultimate is delivering a house that exceeds the expectations of our clients,” the pair say.

The duo, along with their 8-strong team and associated sub-contractors, specialise in building mid to upper-end homes Canterbury wide.

Ninety five per cent of their new builds utilise the entire design and build process David Reid Homes offers, an option which is becoming more favoured by the banks, Chris Swann says.

As a chartered accountant himself, he also brings a further advantage to the business, of being able to aid clients with their financial decisions, as well as the design and build side of the process.

Chris and Chris say their team has the skill set required to put their hands to any task, but are known for their ability to provide solutions for all clients, no matter their lifestyle.

“Our expertise is really just taking clients’ ideas and wishes and wants out of a home and being able to design something that perfectly fits that, in a value for money way.”
