Meet Felicity and Tau - The new owners of David Reid Homes Waikato

To sum up new David Reid Homes Waikato owners Felicity and Tau in one word, we would say “passionate”. The husband and wife duo have built a reputation of trust for themselves under their previous business, Lunix Homes, but knew that under the David Reid Homes brand, they could take things to the next level. 

Tau comes from a building background. “I started on the tools but worked my way up to site management and eventually project management roles. After a while, I developed a bit of a name for myself and started to be headhunted for those types of projects. I saw an opportunity then to start my own business - Lunix Homes.”

Word quickly spread around the region of Tau’s incredible attention to detail and as a result, the business grew to 30 people in just a few years. The demand was huge and that’s when Felicity, Tau’s Wife, left her Early Childhood Education role to help with administration, specifications and customer care. “We learned so much in those few years. What we didn’t know, we made up for in persistence and drive, putting in the time and the Mahi” Says Tau. “Sometimes we would work so late that we fell asleep on our desks” agrees Felicity. 

When Covid hit, Tau and Felicity’s business was hit hard. They decided to switch strategies and lean into what Tau was naturally best at - building higher quality, architecturally designed homes. It was in 2022 that Tau and Felicity decided to enter a showhome they had built into the Master Builders House of the Year Awards. In a testament to the hard work they and their team had put in, they won a Gold Award at Regionals, then went to Nationals where they wound up amongst a small handful of finalists, alongside a showhome built by David Reid Homes Queenstown. “We knew David Reid Homes had a reputation for building really high quality architecturally designed homes so to be sitting alongside them and know that our work was up to that standard was awesome” said Felicity. 

When the opportunity to become a part of David Reid Homes presented itself a few months later, it just felt right for Felicity and Tau. “Our approach to our work already fit with the David Reid Homes approach. Our values, our workmanship and our customer care... It was a great fit” says the couple. 

Now that they’re officially part of the David Reid Homes family, Tau and Felicity have big plans. “We’re ready to start building our name under the David Reid Homes brand,” says Tau excitedly. “The service we provide is first class. When you work with David Reid Homes Waikato, you’ll be dealing with us personally. It’s important to us that we’re hands-on and able to build relationships with our clients”. 

“Building a house is a huge investment so you need to be comfortable with the people you’re trusting that to” says Felicity. “We’ve spent 7 years building up relationships with the best local subcontractors and suppliers so we have great foundations to start with.”

The couple has aspirations of dominating the Master Builders House of the Year Awards within the next few years. “It’s an exciting new chapter for us” they say.
