Meet the Team Behind David Reid Homes Nelson

  • Bringing a boutique approach to high-end building in the sunshine capital

There’s a new name in Nelson’s building scene, but the faces behind it are anything but new to the industry.

With 23 years of combined experience, Dan and Bridget are the team behind the newly launched David Reid Homes Nelson and Tasman franchise. We sat down with them to talk about their journey so far, what sets their approach apart, and why Nelson and Tasman are such a special place to build.

“We’re hands-on, local, and completely invested”
For Dan, Director of Operations, launching David Reid Homes Nelson felt like the natural next step.

“I’ve worked in residential construction for 15 years, including seven running my own contracting company,” he says. “I’ve always loved the practical side of the job - being on site, solving problems, and keeping things running smoothly.”

After a year in Queenstown managing high-end architectural builds, Dan returned to the top of the South with a deeper appreciation for bespoke design and the detail it demands. That experience has shaped how he approaches each project today.

“I’m a bit old school - I like being on the tools and seeing the progress with my own eyes. That on-site presence really matters when it comes to keeping quality high and timeframes tight.”

“Clients trust us to guide them through the process”
While Dan is keeping the builds running to plan, Bridget is the first person most clients meet. As Sales Manager and Design Lead, she manages the relationship from the very first conversation.

“I’ve always had a passion for interiors and helping people bring their ideas to life,” she says. “Before this role I worked in painting, flooring, soft furnishings—you name it. Then I completed my Diploma in Interior Design and started combining it all.”

With eight years in the industry, Bridget’s product knowledge and design eye are now key parts of the David Reid Homes Nelson offering.

“We take a really collaborative approach. Clients come to us with ideas or inspiration, and we help shape that into a home that not only looks beautiful but functions for their lifestyle. It’s about making the design process feel simple, supported, and personal.”

Building in Nelson: sunshine, views, and a few council quirks

When asked what makes building in Nelson and Tasman unique, both Dan and Bridget light up.

“We’re lucky,” Dan says. “The climate here is amazing. The light, the views, the lifestyle—it’s all a big part of why people choose to build here. But from a building perspective, it also means we need to design homes that embrace that outdoor living.”

Bridget agrees. “Indoor-outdoor flow is a must. Sunlight matters. And views are everything. But we also have to factor in the practical side—like working with two different councils. That’s where local knowledge really comes in.”

A boutique approach with the backing of a national brand

At David Reid Homes Nelson, Dan and Bridget are deeply involved in every stage of the build.

“We like to stay close to the process,” says Dan. “It means we can spot opportunities, solve issues early, and make sure the details are right.”

That same attention to detail applies to the team they work with.

“We’ve built a strong network of trusted contractors and suppliers,” adds Bridget. “Everyone on site is committed to quality and shares the same pride in what we create.”

    So, what’s next?

With plans for their first show home already underway, Dan and Bridget are focused on building momentum and relationships.

“We’re excited to keep growing and working with more people across the region,” says Bridget. “For us, it’s about building strong relationships and creating homes that people are genuinely proud to live in.”

Whether you’re planning a rural lifestyle property, a modern family home, or a high-end architectural build, David Reid Homes Nelson brings a down-to-earth, experienced, and deeply committed team to your project.

“We’re here, we’re local, and we’re ready to help you create something special. Get in touch to start your journey.”
