National Award for GIB Best Show Home by David Reid Homes Queenstown

David Reid Homes is celebrating winning the National Award for “GIB Best Show Home” at the prestigious National Registered Master Builder Awards in Auckland at the weekend.

Fraser MacKenzie, who co-owns and operates David Reid Homes Queenstown with his wife Abi, says they are delighted with the win.

“Winning this award in our industry’s largest competition is something we are hugely proud of. Given it is also one of our show homes gives us a little bit more of a lift as it has been a little more of a labour of love when designing and building the home.”

The 293 sqm home on the Hanley’s Farm development has four bedrooms, two bathrooms and a powder room. The floor-to-ceiling glazing and cathedral timber-lined ceilings mean that the Central Otago landscape and, of course, the mountain views are never far from view. The use of schist, dark timber and steel as the main building materials give the home a rustic alpine look and feel. Stylistically the schist moulds perfectly with the surroundings and is smartly used alongside the dark timber, especially when used in the indoor and outdoor fireplaces, which become centrepieces of the house.

Outside there is stunning hardwood decking in the covered entertainment and uncovered relaxation areas. Leading from the private multi-level master bedroom is a secluded outdoor spa pool. The innovative design is complemented by the use of world-leading energy-saving materials, ideal for the cold winters and the hot summers.
