Another wild year is coming to a close, and as we look forward to what 2022 holds, we also reflect on the year 2021 has been. It’s been a big year for David Reid Homes, with multiple new Show homes opening as well as outstanding results at the Master Builders House of the Year awards, the first edition of our magazine Our Place went to print, we saw three new franchises expand our reach throughout New Zealand, and of course David Reid Homes received a brand new look!
New Show home in Te Awamutu, Waikato
This new show home was an exciting step for the David Reid Homes Waikato franchise’s new owner Paul Mens, who took over at the beginning of 2021. Set on a corner, elevated 604 sqm site, this 4 bedroom, 2 bath and double garage home is a modest 220 sqm, showcasing the high quality and luxury custom designs you can achieve on any piece of land and with any budget. The open plan Pavilion design of the home lends itself to the entertainer, with seamless indoor-outdoor flow between the lounge and partially covered hardwood decking. This flow is supplemented by the bench-height bi-fold windows which open out onto the back deck from the designer kitchen.
New Show home in Nga Roto Estate, Taupō
Two-storey and architecturally designed, this home is the family living and entertainer’s dream. Features include a designer kitchen and scullery, complete with a separate bar and media room. The bar/drinks area is finished with a polished granite bench top, and smokey glass shelves for storage. The open plan kitchen living area takes advantage of the sunny outlook, with large sliding doors that effortlessly open out to a wraparound deck (complete with louvre system to provide shade, shelter and year round entertaining).
New Show home in Hobsonville, Auckland
This generously proportioned home boasts 4 bedrooms, 3 bathrooms and 2 living areas. The layout of the home balances functionality with design, with 3 of the 4 bedrooms located on the 2nd floor, creating space between private quarters and living areas. The clever design places the 4th bedroom on the lower floor with a spacious ensuite giving privacy to guests while keeping family space for children upstairs. The exterior of the home shows off contrasting horizontal and vertical weatherboards, and sleek long-line roofing completes this stunning home.
Expanding into the Wairarapa, and Rodney
The new Rodney franchise is headed up by Malcolm Reid and Jessica Musson, with 40 years of experience between them. Malcolm lives and breathes construction, having worked within the field for over 25 years as a qualified builder. With experience in civil construction and larger commercial projects as well as residential, Malcolm explains that he enjoys residential building most of all. When asked why he chose David Reid Homes, Malcolm explained that it was our “reputation of high quality homes, which fits with what he likes.”
Claire Iggulden and Mike Carson brought their 19 year of experience to the beautiful region of the Wairarapa. The pair are now well into their new developments in the established Cashmere Oaks and Tararua Junction in Greytown. Mike and Claire are passionate about building and designing bespoke homes for their clients. “We have the skills from our great team of builders to ensure that our clients get the build that they desire.”
House of the Year, Master Builders Award
In July, Aaron and Nikki of the David Reid Homes Waitaki and South Canterbury saw two of their homes win Gold at the Master Builder House of the Year Awards. Their stunning build in Lake Ōhau took out both the Regional Category win, and the Regional Gold for Mid-South Canterbury in the $600,000 - $750,000 category. The lakeside home was carefully tailored for their owners, and features timber and dark tones throughout the interior and exterior, in keeping with the hues of the landscape. The home also has its own story, having remarkably survived a wildfire which tore through the small village in October last year.
The duo continued to be recognised for their outstanding work in the Great Outdoors category, taking out the Regional Category Win and being awarded Regional Gold for their modern three-bedroom family home in Ōamaru. A great result for the team in Waitaki/South Canterbury!
This year we also brought our magazine, Our Place, to life with the first edition going to print in January. There’s something special about turning tangible pages and feeling that connection to what you are reading. We were delighted to see our homes in print, and even more so to see how much you all felt the same. We are excited to announce the second edition is well underway and due to be released January 2022! To receive your free copy, fill out the form here.
And finally, the brand new look for David Reid Homes. Months in the making, we decided it was time to evolve how we presented ourselves to better reflect who we are and what we represent. There is nothing quite like new, and we endeavour to bring you the experience and elation of new in every build. We are so excited for what this new year will bring, and are delighted to be on this exciting journey together with you. So as we sign off the year that was 2021, we would like to thank you for your continued support as we enter a brand new year full of new possibilities.
From the team at David Reid Homes, we wish you a very Merry Christmas with your loved ones, and a prosperous and Happy New Year.
