It’s that time of year again where lighter evenings and warmer weather beckons you out of hibernation and spurs you into tackling those outstanding DIY jobs.
Keeping the interior and exterior of your home in good nick reduces the need for repairs, helps to give it a longer life span, improves its value and makes it a smarter place to live.
Spring is a great time for maintenance when the weather’s warm but not too hot, and you can earn some relaxing time over summer, safe in the knowledge that all the hard work is done.
Outdoors
It’s a great time to be outdoors getting into jobs such as:
- pruning trees and hedges
- clearing out gutters
- washing your home’s exterior with soapy water and a soft brush
- weeding around the base of your home
- sorting out garden irrigation for summer
- painting any faded fences, gates and sheds
Indoors
Don’t let the weather distract you, there’s also plenty you could do inside as well, such as:
- cleaning carpets – hire your own machine or get a commercial company to do it for you
- clearing out any clutter – sell it or dump it
- moving furniture into summer settings, looking to the outdoors
- finishing any outstanding painting
- bringing the outdoors in – get new indoor plants or prune any dead leaves off the ones you have, and plant herbs like basil, which like being indoors
- airing out duvets, blankets and pillows in the sun – kill those dust mites and shake them out
