What are the bathroom trends for 2025?

  • Bathrooms are no longer just functional spaces. They are becoming sanctuaries, style statements, and thoughtful reflections of how we live.

To get the latest on what’s trending in bathroom design for 2025, we spoke with Louise from Mico Bathrooms, who brings over 12 years of experience to the conversation.

From colour palettes and texture to practical tips and personal touches, Louise shares what’s on trend, what’s fading, and how to make your bathroom work beautifully for you.

What’s trending in bathroom design for 2025?

Louise: That calm, earthy, spa-like look is still going strong. People are creating bathrooms that feel like a retreat, with soft finishes, warm tones, and natural textures.

Vanities continue to be a standout feature. We’re seeing lots of wood-look vanities, and even custom resin colours where people can choose something totally unique. That level of personalisation is becoming more popular, especially as people want their bathroom to reflect their own style.

Is the all-white bathroom on its way out?

Yes, we are seeing less of the cold, clinical white and more warmth coming in through texture and colour. Wooden tones, brushed brass, bronze and gold accents are very popular right now. Even brushed nickel is having a moment. It still feels neutral, but it is softer than chrome.

On the flip side, black and gunmetal tapware are fading slightly. They are still available, but warmer metallics are taking over. Some clients are also mixing finishes, using chrome taps with bronze accessories, for example, which adds depth and interest to the space.

    What about tile trends?

Tiles are a great place to have fun. We’re seeing people use them as a feature, such as behind a vanity or in the shower, rather than tiling the whole bathroom. Bigger, bolder patterns and textured finishes are coming through strongly.

Subway tiles are still popular too, especially when laid in interesting patterns. Overall, texture is a key element, whether it’s in tiles, vanities or even reeded shower glass.

Is wallpaper making a comeback in bathrooms?

We’re seeing more bold wallpaper choices in powder rooms, where people are more willing to be playful. These spaces often feature darker colours or more expressive patterns, and that extends to the fittings and fixtures too.

In main bathrooms, people tend to keep things lighter and more classic, but the powder room is definitely a space for personality.

Any advice for renovating a bathroom in an older home?

The classic villa look is still very popular. Many people are choosing freestanding vanities, traditional tapware and natural oak tones to keep the character of their home alive.

Some suppliers specialise in heritage-style pieces, which can help maintain a cohesive feel. But many homeowners also mix traditional with modern elements to bring their home into the present while nodding to the past. It’s all about balance.

What are some common mistakes to avoid when designing a bathroom?

I don’t know if you can really get a bathroom “wrong,” because it’s such a personal space. But I do think some people play it too safe, worrying too much about resale. My advice is always to design it for you.

That said, it is important to think practically. Consider who will be using the bathroom. For example, if you have young kids, a basin that sits on top of a vanity might look great but may be hard for them to use.

Other common things to think about are:

    • Do you need one basin or two?
    • Is your toilet roll holder in an awkward spot?
    • Do you have enough shelving in the shower?
    • Will your towel rail fit everyone’s towels?

Any clever layout or storage tips?

One great tip is to install a power point inside your vanity cabinet. That way, you can store your electric toothbrush or hair tools out of sight while keeping them plugged in.

Also, plan where you want shower storage. Whether it is built-in niches or shelves, you will always need more space than you think.

And yes, even something as small as the placement of the toilet roll holder can affect how much you enjoy the space. These little details matter.

What about underfloor heating? Is it worth it?

It depends on your location and budget, but many people do include it, especially in colder parts of the country. It adds a touch of comfort and can really enhance the experience, especially during winter.

Any final advice for someone planning a bathroom build or renovation?

Take your time, do your research, and talk to someone who knows bathrooms. There is a huge range of products and finishes out there. Whether it is a bathroom consultant, a plumber or your builder, speaking to an expert will help you avoid oversights and make better decisions.

And most importantly, make the space work for you. It is your bathroom, after all.
